After the announcement of ten successful contestants for the National Carnival Queen Pageant, the Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC) in collaboration with the National Carnival Queen Pageant Committee announced that it will host the Sashing Ceremony for the 69th annual National Carnival Queen Pageant this Thursday, May 4, 2022 at 8pm.
This is the first year ten contestants will grace the stage instead of the usual eight. The Sashing Ceremony is where contestants and the general public learn which sponsors are assigned to which contestants. It is one of the most anticipated events for Carnival Queen enthusiasts.
Chairperson of the National Carnival Queen Committee, Mr. Trevor King, said “We’ve felt the excitement of our patrons after the announcement of two additional contestants and saw a high level of interest from organizations looking to become sponsors of this year’s Pageant. It’s testament that our efforts at continuing to deliver a high quality pageant are well received. Our contestants become brand ambassadors for their sponsors, and the sponsors go all out to ensure that they know they have a team behind them, cheering them on.”
The ten contestants vying for the title of National Carnival Queen 2023 are Akia Chiquot of Laborie, Aliyel Fontenelle of Gros Islet, Bernell St. Rose of Soufriere, Jadyn Leonty of Forestiere, Castries, Jernais Perineau of Bois d’Orange, Gros Islet, Leana Lewis of Dennery, Maria Edmund of Ciceron, Castries, Shanice Butcher of Bisee, Castries, Tyler Disulk of Fond Coolie, and Shantel Edward of Bocage, Castries.
The Sashing Ceremony can be viewed live on NTN, or on Facebook and YouTube at Carnival Saint Lucia from 8 pm. The National Carnival Queen Pageant is set to take place on Saturday, July 1st, 2023.
