DJ SHELZ

Thirty-something-year-old DJ Shelz is one of Saint Lucia’s hottest DJs. He took up the craft while in New York at age 18 on the advice of his brother who was a full-time DJ.

After returning to Saint Lucia sometime later, DJ Shelz played at popular nightclubs, including Turbulence and Verve, and at major events. He moved to Vybe Radio when the station opened in April 2016.

Generally unassuming, DJ Shelz’s unique way of selecting the right tracks makes even a prude partygoer shake a leg or two. Music is his drive and he delights in taking his audiences on a musical roller-coaster. He knows his audiences thoroughly, too.

“Dennery Segment and Afro beats are the genres of music people gravitate to most,” he says of the fast-growing genre of music in Saint Lucia that has caught on big time with patrons despite some earlier protests.

DJ Shelz – who has hopes of creating his own beats and working with artistes on tracks – believes DJs bring a very important element to the masses. At Vybe Radio, he relishes in giving people the music they love and have them feeding off his vibe. He spins the 1s and 2s from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

“Vybe Radio is a cool place to be when it comes to radio,” DJ Shelz says. “It’s a place where you get to bring the real vibe to the people.”
